Homeowners Meg Peck and David Keslick are anxious to leave hustle and bustle of Los Angeles and move to the laid-back lifestyle of Austin, Texas. But, before they go, they need to sell their 1,200-square-foot home. In the three years the couple has lived in the house, they have done lots of work to the home, including a kitchen remodel. Real estate expert Shannon Freeman arrives to give her unvarnished opinion. Before she even gets through the door, she has a problem with the lackluster landscaping and loud traffic noise. She says she’ll need to be overly impressed with the inside to make up for the outside. But she isn't. Freeman thinks the living room is overcrowded with too much furniture and the guest bedroom is not very welcoming. But, it is the unfinished utility room that really appalls her. The messy, unorganized space is an eyesore, and it makes the adjacent kitchen look bad.
Designer Lisa LaPorta agrees with Freeman's assessment and has a $2,000 plan that will have these homeowners packing up and moving out in no time.
Step 1: Perform some hardscaping to make this house the most attractive one on the street.
Step 2: Add some drama and sophistication to the guest bedroom.
Step 3: Reconfigure the utility and laundry room for better function and more pleasing aesthetics.
