Real Estate Advice for Selling a Bachelor Pad

Soon-to-be newlyweds get help selling the groom's place so they can get a new one.

Designed to Sell : Episode HDTS-608 -- More Projects »

Wedding bells are ringing for John Cabral and fiancee Janice Quinonez. The couple is preparing to walk down the aisle, but first they need to sell his old bachelor pad. The Designed to Sell team, armed with their $2,000 budget, sets out to turn this place into a sophisticated home that will appeal to potential buyers.

Real estate expert Kathy Quaid starts her evaluation by first noting that the exterior of the home looks like a motel, making it all the more important that the interior be stunning throughout. She likes the renovation that has already been done in the kitchen, but is concerned about the out-of-style cabinets. She also notes that bachelor accents such as a bar-glass collection and industrial paper-towel holder might not be appealing to all buyers.

Design expert Monica Pedersen jumps in with a plan to make this condo a hot property. She wants to play up the great wood floors as well as the high-end upgrades that have already been added. She also wants to take the kitchen renovation a step further for an updated look. Here's how she intends to do it:

Step 1: The bachelor party's over. Design the condo to appeal to both men and women to increase potential buyers.

Step 2: Use it or lose it. Take full advantage of the square footage so buyers can see what they are paying for.

Step 3: Bring it up to par. Wipe out the weak features so they don't overshadow the strong ones.

Carpenters Robert North and Chad Lopez are on board to get this makeover on the move.

Bedroom Before
Real estate expert Kathy Quaid thought the bedroom, like the exterior, looked like a cheap motel. With an unsightly air conditioner, van seat and visible plastic-covered bedding, potential buyers were sure to check out early.
