Spirit of Monticello

Fantasy Open House : Episode FAN-306 -- More Projects »
This majestic estate sits on nearly three acres of gentle woodlands in the historic western suburb of Chicago. With six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, the original Colonial-style house was built in 1945 and was completely renovated in 1996 — if you can call going from 6,000 square feet to 17,000 square feet a mere renovation! The owner used a very famous model to create his dream house — Thomas Jefferson's Monticello.

In the two years it took to renovate the house, a pool and pool house were added, in addition to a putting and chipping green in the backyard. Every inch of the home has been finished with the best money can buy: the bathroom fixtures are made with 24-karat gold leaf; the floors are polished mahogany; the skylights and exterior details sparkle with copper. A mahogany, marble and brass elevator services all three floors. These are just a few of the luxurious amenities of this grand home — Thomas Jefferson himself would be impressed!

Selling price: $10,900,000
