Brazilian Bound
Homeowner Greg Meeropol has been bitten by the Brazilian bug, so hes moving to South America. But, before he can say goodbye to Washington D.C., he needs to sell his house. Greg has lived in this unique, corner-lot house for over eight years. Located in a city neighborhood with a rich past, the historic 2,000-square-foot home use to be retail store. Real estate expert Shirley Mattam-Male provides her professional opinion of the homes assets and drawbacks. Her first impression is confusion this corner-lot house has two doors, so shes not sure which one to use. Whichever one is the front door, it needs to be better defined. In the master bedroom, Mattam-Male finds the bright blue walls a bit overwhelming and the white carpet old and dingy. The color in the bathroom is also daunting the deep red walls make the room look small. Mattam-Male also makes note of the dreary, distressed countertop and vanity.
Designer Taniya Nayak agrees with Mattam-Males evaluation and has a $2,000 plan that will right all the wrongs.
Step 1: Clearly define the front door, and make the side yard more livable.
Step 2: Tone down the personality-packed, bright-blue bedroom and give it a neutral, calming décor.
Step 3: In the bathroom, paint over the lipstick-red walls with a neutral color to make the room feel bigger and brighter.
Contractors John Allen and Matt Steele know how to execute each step to make sure this homeowner gets top dollar for his home.
