Paul Zook is 29 years old and has decided it's time to settle down and buy his own home. Though he's maturing, he still loves his toys, and they take up a lot of space. Everything he owns is now crammed into the 900-square-foot apartment that he shares with a roommate. Besides some much-needed storage space, Zook is also looking for a house with a modern kitchen that's suited to entertaining.
Jeff Daby is the realtor helping Zook with his search. Zook thinks that a condominium might work for him, if it has enough square footage, so that's where they begin their search. But the condo has some unwanted features--stairs. After carrying groceries and his bike up to his second floor apartment for years, Zook has had enough of stairs.
The next home has plenty of room, but lacks the enclosed garage Zook wants. So far he has seen condominiums that feel more like apartments than houses and houses without much storage space. So the search continues, and this time Zook's girlfriend, Meighan, has come along.
Daby shows them a new listing and it's the best one Zook has seen in his price range. It has the two bathrooms he and his roommate need, a nice kitchen and plenty of space--both indoors and out--for Zook to entertain all his friends. Best of all, it has a two-car garage and ample storage space. Knowing a house like this will sell quickly, he immediately makes an offer. But will his offer be the one the sellers accept?
Though other buyers were interested in the house, Zook is pleased to find out the following day that the house is his. Seven weeks later, he's all moved in and enjoying his new house. It took a while for him to find his version of "home," but a clear list of priorities helped him recognize it when he saw it.
