The Hunt

House Hunters : Episode HNT-101 -- More Projects »
Meet the Englanders. Jayne, Mitchell, and their 3-year-old daughter Lindsay need a larger home – and fast. They have been renting a small two-bedroom house, but with the birth of their second child just three months away, this growing family needs more living space. They would also like to find a home with a spacious kitchen and a grassy back yard. Realtor Karen O'Connell takes the Englanders out looking for a home.

The Englanders hit the streets in search of their new home. The first home Karen takes them to see is a "fixer-upper." Jayne and Mitch decide that with a new baby on the way, they really need a home they can move right into. The second home the couple visits is missing several crucial elements that the Englanders want--a fireplace and a large kitchen. House No. 3 has lovely Spanish-style details, but the bathroom is small, the stairs are steep, and there is only a tiny patch of grass in the yard. Frustrated and running short on time, the couple decides to keep looking.

Next the Englanders drive through a neighborhood they really like, looking for "For Sale" signs in the yard. Their realtor, Karen O'Connell, offers to see if the seller will allow them an impromptu tour. The owner agrees, and although the asking price is more expensive than the Englanders wanted to spend, they decided to take a look around anyway. Their tour begins in the home's spacious living room, then moves to the large kitchen, through a bathroom with two sinks, and into the big, grassy back yard. The Englanders head home to discuss whether they can afford this ideal home.

The Mitchells decide to make an offer on the house they were so fond of. They include a personal letter with the offer, hoping that the sellers will agree to bring the price down a little. After a gut-wrenching counteroffer process, the Englanders got the call that their final offer was accepted. They do a final walk-through of the house. Two months after the sale is complete, we revisit the Englander family as they enjoy their new home--and their new addition to the family.
