The Hunt

House Hunters : Episode HNT-901 -- More Projects »
Although Jill Lindsay and Steve Robinson have loved living near the coast for seven years, they are now ready for a warmer climate. Their current four-story home features great cantilevered architecture and tremendous 270-degree views. Fireplaces grace each room, and there's a bar on every floor. The couple adore this modern house, but it lacks backyard space and ever-present wind and cold that greets their hilltop home. They're also concerned about a housing development going up nearby, so they have decided to look for a new dream home further inland.

They enlist the help of real estate agent Steven Kay. The first house they see is Mediterranean in style and at the top of their price range. They are greeted by an entryway with limestone floors that blend into distressed hardwood in the living room. The house also boasts fine architectural detailing in its broad columns and arches. The kitchen has a large center island, stainless-steel appliances and opens into the family room. In the backyard there is a fountain, hot tub and a pool. Upstairs is the master suite, which has a sitting area and huge bathroom. The bathroom includes a steam shower, spa tub and a skylight. There are two large spare rooms upstairs as well. They like the house, but they'd like to see what else is on the market.

Later that day he shows them a more traditional four-bedroom home that has hardwood floors, exposed ceiling beams and a nice fireplace. The family room has built-ins, another fireplace and stained-glass art above the bar. Outside there is a large patio and pool. In the kitchen there is another fireplace and built-in appliances. The master suite has three different rooms, including an office with French doors and built-in bookshelves. The bedroom has a nice balcony, but the bathroom is not up to their standards. Although they like the house overall, they're unsure this is the one.

Kay next takes the couple to see a four-bedroom Georgian-style home that has just gone through a major renovation. The front room has white oak floors that have been stained a dark brown and there are crown moldings and an intricately crafted fireplace. The kitchen has white marble countertops and commercial-grade appliances. Upstairs the master suite has two sitting areas, a large bathroom and well-organized walk in closet. The bedroom features a fireplace, French doors out to a balcony and high ceilings. The master bathroom is separated into his and hers. There are also three guestrooms, each with their own bathroom. The backyard has a nice pool and a large guesthouse. They like this house, too, and they now have to figure out which of the three great homes they've seen is right for them.

The couple decides to go with the four-bedroom Georgian home. Kay called in the bid, but came back to the couple with bad news: the house went into multiple offers. They decided to raise their bid, and they got the house. Three months later the couple thinks they've made the right decision. They decorated very quickly, so the renovated house already looks like home. She was happy to find out that the master suite has good flow between the office, sitting area, bedroom and bathrooms.

They like the kitchen because it's great for entertaining, and he likes the family room where his huge couch and plasma-screen television are right at home near the warm fireplace. The couple is glad to be able to have outside parties now that they're away from their windy former residence and are glad they took a chance on finding a great new home.
