The Cost of Homes

Inflated housing prices are often blamed on the rising costs of labor, materials, and land, but governmental regulatory fees actually have the greatest effect on the cost of housing. Developer Roger Glunt says these fees have prompted builders to find better ways to use land and to lobby for fairer land-use regulations. To compensate home buyers for the extra cost, many builders are upgrading insulation and heating/cooling systems to cut utility bills. In some cases, buyers can opt to add their own finishing touches to reduce a home's price.
