Calming Your Kitten
Smart Solutions : Episode SSL-724 -- More Projects »
Veterinarian Bernadine Cruz suggests a few simple solutions to calm down a rambunctious kitten.Toys
- Fill an empty film canister with dried beans for a rattle that rolls.
- A brown grocery bag makes a wonderful toy. Be sure to remove the handles first (figure A).
- Tie a toy to the end of an elastic string, then attach it to a doorknob for unsupervised fun (figure B).
- Shine a flashlight in a dark room, allowing the kitten to try and catch it.
- Crumble up a piece of paper into a ball for kitty to bat around.
Safety Precautions
- Block access to the coils and wires behind the refrigerator, washer and dryer with a phone book (figure C).
- Tape electrical cords down so lamps can't be pulled down or cords chewed on.
- To keep kitty off the counter when you're not around, place painters tape rolled over on itself on the surface. Cats don't like the sticky feel.
- Another way to keep kitty off furniture and other surfaces is to put sheets of aluminum foil on the surface. Cats don't like the noise it makes when they land on it.
- Don't leave chairs and stools near tables and countertops. They give kitty easier access.
