Laura makes all sorts of crafty pet projects including pet beds for larger dogs. Laura recommends that when making a larger dog bed to start with four inexpensive standard pillows. First, open the seams of four standard pillows and sew the pillows together. Measure the finished pad and add two inches all over, creating the dimensions for the cover. Cut two coordinating pieces of fleece, a pattern and a solid will look great together. Stitch three of the four edges together, leaving one open, like a pillowcase. Cut fringe on the open end and put the pillow inside. Tie the fringe together. Now you have a dog bed with a removable cover. Laura recommends that if you want to make the bed waterproof, first cover the pillows with a plastic twin mattress cover before adding the fleece cover.
