Salon manager Tracie Loeffler shares tips on easily caring for your hair.
- To prevent static in your hair, spray aerosol static protectant or even hairspray on your hairbrush, and brush through your hair.
- The best thing you can do for your hair is condition it. Use a store-bought conditioner on a regular basis. Deep condition if it feels extra dry or brittle. Wash, then apply conditioner. Place a bag over your hair, then wrap a towel around your head as well. Carry on with projects around the house or even sleep with the conditioner on overnight. Rinse.
- The most damaging thing you can do to your hair is perming it. It weakens and breaks down the hair follicle. Coloring strips hair follicles. Both are bad for your hair, but the worst is the combination of both.
- Is it bad for your hair if you shampoo every day? Do what is best for your hair. Check your scalp to see if it is oily.
- As an alternative to shampooing, try dry washing it by rubbing a handful of baking soda through your hair (then brush it out) to remove oil. Putting baking soda in your hair will absorb some of the oil, but will result in dullness. Save time in the morning by washing your bangs in the sink, rather than jumping in the shower and washing and drying your hair.
- Hair grows faster in the winter months. Growing hair is nature's way of keeping you warm. During summer months you may feel that you have more hair than normal because you are warm.
- If you have a problem with your roots showing, touch up the area with a matching mascara or brow pencil. Only touch up around the hairline around the face.
- A good way to hide balding spots is to back comb.
- Why does hair have to be wet when it is cut? It's easier for the stylist to give a more even and precise cut. Cutting dry hair allows for hairs to be crimped up and missed, perhaps resulting in an uneven cut or trim.
- Is there a simple way to cut your own bangs? Some salons now offer free bang trims for clients. Many people have attempted bang trims at home that have resulted in disasters.
- Control static in your hair by running a sheet of fabric softener over it. Keep it in your pocket to use throughout the day.
