  • When drying curly hair (either natural or permed), don't point the diffuser up--it only roughs up the hair cuticle and makes hair look frizzy. Point the diffuser straight in toward the scalp (figure A).

  • When trying to keep curls lively, don't touch the hair too much or use too many styling products. They only weight down the curls.

  • A little hand lotion can be worked into the hair lightly to help control flyaway hair that is full of static.

  • To avoid a frizzy look from drying hair (figure B), take large sections of hair, scrunch them up loosely and clip them up (figure C). Dry with diffuser.

  • Too much product can weight down hair (figure D). For a curlier look, take a large section of hair and wrap a pipe cleaner near the end (figure E). Roll under and secure by bending the ends of the pipe cleaner. Dry as usual. Unroll and blend curls with a minimum of brushing.

  • Long straight hair (figure F) will have more movement with gentle layers. To get this type of hair to curl, use very hot rollers. After the rollers cool, remove. Don't brush hair immediately. Let the curls harden instead. Use hair spray while your hair is in rollers and after styling.
