Oatmeal, honey and vitamin E are great skin exfoliators.
Skin-care expert Lisa Sinowy provides tips about protecting skin from the sun.
  • For children, use a sun block, not a sunscreen. Use a waterproof sun protector for when they are swimming and re-apply every two hours. A neat trick is to add food coloring inside the bottles to allow the children to do some finger painting and get them excited about putting on sunblock.

  • Women should use a daily moisturizer with sunscreen that has an SPF factor of at least 15. There are even powdered foundations that have sunscreen.

  • Don't forget that a hat or sun visor can be used to protect the face from harsh rays.

  • Soak paper towels in witch hazel, aloe vera or rose water, place them in freezer bags and freeze. Just pop one of the paper towels out of the freezer pack and apply to sunburned skin.

  • Create a natural skin exfoliator of oatmeal, honey and vitamin E (see photo) . Rub the mixture onto a burned nose or back to help alleviate itching and keep the area from peeling badly.

  • Use a pigment-diminisher on brown spots or freckles to help reduce the damage that has been inflicted by a sunburn.
