Hiding Problem Areas
Smart Solutions : Episode SSL-445 -- More Projects »
Loren Ruch, a fashion consultant, knows most women feel self-conscious about some part of their body. He shows how to use clothes to shift the attention away from the problem areas and focus on the positive ones.
Figure A--This model is uncomfortable with her hip area and prefers to wear baggy clothes in an attempt to take away the focus on her hips, as shown on the left. This is a common mistake, as baggy clothes draw the eye toward the problem area, not away from it. On the right, Ruch has put her in a slimmer-fitting pant and shirt with a long jacket. The jacket de-emphasizes the area she doesn't want noticed and allows her to be comfortable and confident in pants that highlight her figure.
Figure B--This model is conscious of her 5-foot, 2-inch height and tends to wear one-piece dresses. The mistake she makes is that these dresses tend to give a boxy appearance and become even less flattering with flat shoes. An amazing transformation can be seen on the right, as the long skirt seems to add three to four inches to her height. The break at the waistline emphasizes her hourglass figure, one that many women have but fail to bring out. Comfortable heels give her an instant two inches as well.
Figure C--Standing nearly 5 feet, 10 inches, this model is self-conscious about her legs and consequently wears baggy pants. She is more pleased with her top area and wears a form-fitting item, but doesn't realize that the pant draws attention away from this area. She turns this around with her outfit on the right, accomplishing what she had hoped for. The pants are slightly tighter, giving her a more straight line, and the flowing shirt, open chest region, and necklace bring attention to where she wants it.
