Recommendations

  • Always go with a semi-permanent color. This will last around six to eight weeks before washing out.

  • Hair swatches can aid you in finding the color you desire. Once you've arrived on a color, move to the next lighter shade, as color always takes a little bit darker.

  • Comb the hair out--you don't want it tangled up.

  • Section the hair into four sections. Start from the very back of the head to the front, splitting the hair down the middle, then move from the crown of the head to the back of each ear, thus creating four distinct sections. This helps organize the project and make it less overwhelming.

  • Use triangular partings--taking the hair at angle--to achieve better coverage throughout the roots to get the whole area covered (figure A).

  • Once the roots have been covered, take the color and slide it down the shaft of the hair. The ends of the hair should remain exposed so as not to grab any of the dark color. If the color looks uneven, don't worry. After color has been applied, comb it all through (figure B).

  • Saturate the ends of the hair with color last. The total time color should be left on the hair, from beginning to end, should be around 35 minutes.

  • Before showering, dab shampoo along the hairline, temples and ears (figure C). The trick is not to let water hit your skin. Water, in combination with hair color, is what can stain the skin.

  • When the color is washed out, spray the hair with detangler and dry with a blow dryer.

  • Always follow instructions for the product carefully.
