Majid Ali, an alternative-health expert, provides a lesson on what tea-tree oil is and discusses its benefits and many functions.
Tea tree oil is produced from the Melaleuca tree in Australia and has been used throughout the ages for anti-fungal and antiseptic purposes. It is useful in healing a variety of infections.
Practical uses for tea-tree oil:
soap: Grate four ounces of castile soap into a small container. Bring one quart of bottled water to a boil, then add in the grated soap. Allow to dissolve. When the mixture becomes gelatinous, it can be stored as needed. Combine 10 drops of tea-tree oil with the soap to remedy oily scalp OR dry scalp. Lavender oil adds a nice, flowery scent.
skin conditioner: Add 10 to 15 drops of tea-tree oil to two teaspoons of vegetable oil or any oil that is cold-pressed. Apply twice a day as a remedy for eczema and other skin rashes. If skin irritation continues, consult a physician.
spray disinfectant: Add 30 drops of tea-tree oil to one ounce of witch hazel and 8 ounces of distilled water in a spray bottle. Shake well. This mixture can be sprayed on a surface (such as a coffee table or countertop), like a disinfectant, or can be wiped away like a household cleaner.
