Some flair with a hair wrap will enable you to return to work with more style than just simply pulling the hair back like this.
Margarita Johnson, a hairstylist, discusses styles that can be done in a jiffy after a workout--especially if there is no time to shower. The key is preparation and planning.

  • Wearing a baseball cap or bandana during a workout actually keeps the perspiration away from the hair and face. When the cap is removed, a lot of the moisture will be in the cap itself.

  • Use an antiseptic spray to freshen the hair and scalp. By reducing the smell and bacteria, this will reduce the anxiety that accompanies returning to work after exercise.

Figure B
  • Hair clips (figure A) work great for putting hair up (figure B). Decide what size clip works best for you and drop it in your bag.

  • If you want to leave your hair down, use leave-in conditioner, moisturizer and gel after the antiseptic spray so that your hair won't be too dry.

  • With a little pomade and leave-in conditioner, African-American hair will take a curl quite well. Be sure to test the curling iron with a tissue to make sure it's not too hot and drop a few curls on the hair ends.

  • Using small butterfly hair clips (figure C) after brushing the hair through allows you to gain sophistication while spending less than a minute clipping it back. Don't forget to add a little mousse to the hair with this look.
