  • Set up your workout area in an empty part of the house.

  • Tape down any loose electrical cords (figure A).

  • Set up a little entertainment system. Mount a television on the wall above eye level, and throw in a VCR and stereo (figure B).

  • Attach hook-and-loop tape to the backs of the remotes and then on the machines. This way you can attach the remote to the machine (figure C).

  • Lay down some carpet scraps. They will not only protect the floor from your sweat, but they will also help preserve the equipment by softening the blow of the workout.

  • Bike pouches are also handy as holsters for water bottles, remotes and telephones.

  • Use a baby monitor to allow you to hear what's going on in other rooms so that you can multitask around the house.

  • Avoid shorting a circuit by using a power strip if you'll be plugging in several items.

  • A humidifier or dehumidifier can help to keep the room at a comfortable level.
