Starr finishes his kick. Don't forget to keep the knees slightly bent to reduce the risk of injury.
Fitness expert Denny Starr discusses a great cardiovascular and calorie-burning workout called kickboxing.
  • Kickboxing is a full-body conditioning exercise that helps tone legs and the upper body, as well as strengthens the heart.

  • Forward kicks are often done incorrectly. Bring the knee up first without swinging the leg, then extend the foot outward. By not locking the knees during this exercise, the risk of problems is lessened.

  • When executing a back kick, be sure to maintain correct posture and keep your back straight. Fatigue can cause you to raise your body during the kick and place stress on the lower back.

  • Kickboxing is a thorough workout. Be sure to take things at your own pace, and don't be afraid to take a break and drink some water.
