Use the ring finger when applying creams to the eye area because it is the weakest finger and most gentle to delicate skin.
Skin-care expert Amby Longhofer shares nighttime treatment ideas for skin that contain trace elements, vitamins and antioxidants--ingredients that help undo environmental damage and take advantage of the major repair stages that occur in the body during sleep.

Start these treatments with clean, toned skin about an hour before bedtime.

Puffy Eye Fix

Figure A
Use an eye cream that contains copper peptide, which helps the body produce more collagen and elastin. Apply a pea-size amount underneath and around the eyes. Follow with an aloe-based gel. Cover the eyes with a gel-filled eye mask (figure A) that has been cooled in the freezer. Leave the mask on for about 20 minutes.

Congestion and Irritation Treatment

Figure B
Treat pimples and breakouts with a treatment containing salicylic acid, which eliminates the congestion and dissolves the impurities. Distribute over the affected skin, then apply a thin layer of pure aloe-vera gel with a fan brush (figure B) over the entire face. Leave this hydrating mask on the skin overnight.

Instead of the salicylic acid treatment, you can also use a product containing clay (which dries out the excess oil) under the mask.

Hydrating Treatment

Treat dry skin and fine wrinkles by spritzing toner all over your face. Next apply a product containing a neurotransmitter inhibitor, which helps keep the muscle from contracting and causing wrinkles. This type of product is a wonderful alternative to botox injections. Dab the serum on over the wrinkled areas.

Figure C
An alternative to this serum is a product containing alpha lipoic acid, a powerful antioxidant that renews itself and enhances the action of other antioxidants. Follow with a cream containing vitamins and antioxidants. Finish with a green tea-gel mask (figure C) which has been cooled in the refrigerator. Leave the mask on for about 20 minutes.
