A stiff, angled brush works best for applying wet eye shadow.

Beauty expert Kendra Richards points out several new uses for common beauty products.

Face Powder

Use to take the oily shine from hair when there is no time to shampoo. Sprinkle powder lightly into hair (figure A) and brush through, using several light applications rather than one heavy one. Face powder is better than baby powder, which can look like dandruff in the hair if left unblended.

Moisturizer

Blend with foundation for a sheer, dewy, natural look. Put a drop of cream and a drop of foundation on your hand and gradually add moisturizer to the foundation until the desired degree of sheerness is achieved (figure B). Apply the mixture to face, using a light touch.

Powder Eye Shadow

Apply with water to create a soft eyeliner. Dip brush in water and drag through a dark-colored eye shadow. Apply at the base of the lashes. After the mixture dries, go back over the line with the brush to blend and soften.

Petroleum Jelly

Use alone on the eyelid and lashes for a glossy, natural look. Blend jelly with lipstick on the hand and then apply to the cheeks for a sheer wash of color.
