Manicurist Kristi Marie Jones explains how to make the most of your nail polish.

  • Store polish in the refrigerator to keep it fresh, even though there is no expiration date for polish.

  • Take it out of the refrigerator before use to let it warm to room temperature.

  • If polish becomes too thick over time, add a few drops of nail-polish thinner. Start slowly with the additions, to avoid thinning too much.

  • Try layering colors for depth and shimmer. Try putting on a first layer of beige metallic polish, then covering it with red. Putting the light color on first adds depth.
