Purses hung from a regular hanger are up off the floor, free of dust and don’t take up much room in the closet.
Personal organizer Meryl Starr discusses what to carry inside your purse and how to make the most of limited space.

  • Organize an everyday purse by downsizing rather than carrying a huge one that can cause shoulder and back strain. Carry only a wallet, keys, cell phone and makeup bag with lipstick and tissues in this smaller, more convenient purse.

  • To store purses, try hanging them from a shoe rack installed on the outside of a closet door. This rack also works well for hanging scarves and necklaces.

  • Hang a tie/belt hanger in the closet and load it up with purses that will now be at eye-level (see top photo). Purses will stay clean and dust-free off the floor.

  • A plain hanger can accommodate a few purses, one with a long strap and one with a shorter strap.

  • Hang purses on a stacked pant hanger.

  • Install a tension rod at the back of the closet and hang out-of-season or infrequently used purses from S-hooks.

  • Store off-season bags in a larger bag or small piece of luggage.
