A well-stocked baby bag has everything from messy diaper changes to meals in a minute with pre-measured formula, bottled water and jars of baby food.
Pediatrician Tanya Altmann takes the mystery out of what to include in a well-stocked baby bag that will take you through any emergency.

Diaper bag inventory

  • Always keep at least five diapers in the bag. A baby can go through several in just one hour.

  • Use scented bags for carrying dirty diapers. These will keep odors at bay for a few hours until you can dispose of the bag.

  • Always have diaper wipes at hand.

  • Pack an extra top in case of a spill.

  • It's a good idea to carry a changing pad, since a lot of places do not provide them.

Feeding paraphernalia

  • For bottles, pre-measure the formula into the bottle. Simply add bottled water to the bottle and shake well when the baby is ready to eat. It doesn't have to be warm.

  • a jar of food, spoon, bib

  • a bag of snacks, like dry cereal

  • an insulated ice pack to keep pre-mixed formula from souring

  • burping towel

  • change of clothing in case of accidents

Miscellaneous

  • your physician's phone number

  • fever-reducing medicine

  • immunization card
