Portable hanging file systems are great for keeping track of important things.
Organizing expert Pam Hix shows how to keep paper clutter from getting out of control.

  • Sort your mail as soon as it arrives, then toss out the junk items.

  • Have a specific place for the mail. That way it stays contained in one small area.

  • Magazines and catalogs should be filed into holders. Once the holder is full, throw away old ones.

  • Keep a subscription roster for your magazines so you know when they need to be reordered.

  • When ordering from catalogs keep track of the orders in an order book.

  • Sensitive mail should be shredded when you are finished.

  • Use a heavy marker to cross out your personal information on magazines.

  • Keep important documents and photographs in a lock box or a fire-proof safe.

  • Set up a bill center with a slot for outgoing and incoming bills.
