Router Bits

Room by Room : Episode RXR-1309 -- More Projects »
One of the most versatile tools used to add decorative detail to all sorts of woodworking projects on Room by Room is the router. The secret to the router is the many interchangeable bits that can used to create different shapes and grooves:
  • An ogee bit creates a series of curves and edges that can give a lot of interesting detail to furniture.
  • The cove bit is great for adding a curved edge to furniture. They come in many sizes, as all bits do, and it's probably the most used bit on the show.
  • A round-over bit softens edges and can be combined with other router bits to create even more intricate shapes.
  • The straight bit is a workhorse used to cut grooves and rabbit edges--just about anywhere a nice straight line is needed.
  • A raised panel bit is used to build cabinet doors and it was used to create the decorative window panels for the master bedroom shutters.
