Refrigeration drawers can save a lot of time and space because of their smaller size.
See how an outdoor view and an odd room shape influenced the design of a kitchen/dining area. It's a room with an unusual shape--a long rectangular kitchen that ends at an octagonally shaped glass enclosed dining area.

The view outside provided the inspiration for a kitchen that's functional, but delightful to hang out in. In the octagonal space that's almost a sunroom, the windows are left bare (although there are sunshades overhead to prevent glare) to enhance the view of the heavily wooded property. A black rectangular table for six with leather upholstered dining chairs provides a comfortable place for dining and conversation. Unusual raindrop-shaped glass lights provide light at night, while fading into the landscape during the day.

In the working part of the kitchen, the outside view is mimicked in the room's color scheme with a pale green paint for shelving, walls, and pantry doors. A darker green diamond motif accents refrigerator door panels and backsplashes. Even the slate floor gets a touch, with green tile inlays every few feet. Glass-paned cabinet doors keep the room light and airy and mimic the glass surrounding the opposite end of the room.

A functional element that also helps to transition between the working part of the kitchen and the eating area is the long island in the center of the kitchen. One end is utilitarian and includes a sink and dishwasher, while the other is rounded and accented with bar stools--inviting guests to swivel one way to talk with the cook, or the other way to enjoy the outdoors.
