There is barely any room to get to the items in this cluttered corner.
Kim Handloff moved back in with her parents after college graduation to save money. She returned to her childhood room that is packed to the walls with both childhood keepsakes and grownup stuff.

From a Snoopy lunch pail, rocking horse and Cabbage Patch doll to a flat-screen TV, computer scanner and closet overflowing with clothes, her room is a scrapbook of her life. The younger Kim and the older Kim are clashing, and she's ready for a change.

Sounds simple enough, but there is a twist. Her mother keeps trying to hold on to the items she wants to get rid of order to organize her space. From the looks of this room, it will take more than just eliminating a few things.

The closet is overflowing with clothes, so Kim Handloff uses other pieces of furniture in the room to house them.

She can't get to anything but the top drawer on her wicker dresser, and the matching desk next to it is hardly functional.
Professional organizer Betty Kim is called in to help. Her plan is to sort through everything in the room and break things down into categories labeled Trash, Donate and Maybe. Then she wants to separate the room into various zones: closet, desk, keepsakes and sleeping.

Other changes include removing the childlike wallpaper, putting down new flooring and adding a custom-built closet designed just for her needs. Let's look at the results:

The new custom-made closet system includes built-in drawers, adjustable shelves and several tiers of hanging storage designed to maximize space. Handloff likes the look so much she's decided to leave off the doors.

Additional storage is made possible by this new bureau. Behind that, the new soft green paint is visible. It makes the room feel warmer while also adding a bit of sophistication.
