Two Worlds Collide

Mission: Organization : Episode MSO-313 -- More Projects »
Stefani Cerulli and Chris Holmes are engaged and need to merge their personal belongings and style in a bedroom once used only by her. The room looks like a clothes bomb exploded, with clean--and dirty--clothes piled on the bed, the furniture, the floor, in the closet and even on the dog's bed.

Clothes just don't seem to get put away and end up on the bed, which makes the bedroom stressful rather than relaxing.

Having a his-and-her side in the closet doesn't help, even though there is an infrastructure available for organized storage.
The couple isn't sure there is enough room for all their things in the 12 x 15-foot space. Their goal is to have a bedroom that is restful and inviting with enough appropriate storage for their clothes, magazines, lotions and potions, sports gear and especially Kitty, their dog.

Combining lives means combining wardrobes, and with the disorganized clutter of too many clothes, this engaged couple's bedroom is the last place they want to go to spend time together.

Clean clothes stay piled in the basket, while the "entertainment unit" is a haphazard conglomeration of electronic equipment and personal-care items. There's even an ironing board hiding on that wall.
Professional organizer Debbie Lillard steps in with a plan:

Her first step to getting the couple organized is to gather all the clothes on the bed and have them sort things into designated piles: His, Hers, Donate, Discard, and Clean. Things not worn in the past year should be put in the Discard pile.

Other plans include painting the walls a fresh khaki color, and adding an armoire, dresser and colorful accent pieces.

A new dresser, with his-and-her sides is used to store in-season clothes. New colorful accessories on top are a nice touch.

Fresh paint and red accents enliven the bed, which was rescued from underneath a pile of clothes and moved to another wall to create more floor space.
