Host Mary Ellen Pinkham shares some ideas for using plastic zipper bags around the house.
- A zipper bag makes a handy substitute for a pastry bag when decorating cakes. Cut an opening in one of the bottom corners of the bag, fill it with frosting and start decorating (see photo).
- The same trick can turn a bag into a funnel for filling up small containers such as salt shakers. Cut off a corner, fill the bag and funnel the ingredients into a container.
- Store travel toiletries that might leak such as shampoo or nail-polish remover in a zipper bag.
- Use a zipper bag as a makeshift makeup bag.
- Organize small game or puzzle pieces in zipper bags to help prevent them from getting lost.
- Keep some crayons in a small zipper bag and carry them in a purse so that children have something to entertain themselves with while waiting for food at a restaurant.
- Keep each month's receipts in a zipper bag, and label each bag with the month and year.
- A zipper bag makes a great coupon holder.
- Instead of packing along a large container of wet wipes on a trip, put just a few wipes in a zipper bag.
- Organize craft materials such as beads, buttons and clay in zipper bags.
- For emergency diaper duty, use a large freezer bag as a diaper-changing pad.
- Germinate seeds in a zipper bag with a moist paper towel.
