Field reporter Joe Lovitt meets up with autobody expert Larry Boser, who provides quick-fix tips for a car.
- Squeaking hinges are easy to fix. Use a spray lubricant to silence them. Simply lubricate all the hinges on the hood and the hood latch (see photo). Use a rag to catch the excess lubricant. Do this at least twice a year to keep everything moving smoothly.
- Rear-view mirrors can be temporarily reattached with super glue. Make sure to clean the area well with alcohol. Buy a mirror-adhesive kit as soon as possible because the glue probably will not hold long. The kits are available at auto-parts stores.
- To attach a rear-view mirror, again clean the surface with alcohol, and scrape off any old adhesive on the windshield or mirror mount. Follow the directions that come with the adhesive kit.
- Loose trim can also be reattached. Trim adhesive can be purchased at most auto-parts stores. Be sure to clean the back of the trim and the area where the adhesive is going to be applied with alcohol first. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's directions on applying the adhesive.
