Whipstitching creates a decorative edge for felt coasters.
Organizational expert Amy Ellison explains two ways to use felt remnants:

Cut leftover remnants of felt into coaster-size squares and then whipstitch the edges for a decorative finish (see photo).

Another option is to sew two squares together with whipstitching, leaving one edge open. Tuck some potpourri into the toe of a cutoff piece of pantyhose and knot the end. Slip the potpourri into the felt and sew off the final edge. Felt can be handwashed and laid flat to dry.
