Recycling guru Sonia Michel shows how to turn yard clippings into captivating centerpieces.

  • Use aqua foam (the floral foam that can be soaked in water) for your arrangement.

  • When designing your arrangement, make it symmetrical by layering greens equally on both sides of the arrangement. When adding colorful stems as focal points, work in odd numbers, with three being the most common.

  • Use a kebab stick to add fruit such a lemon to the arrangement (see photo at right). Just poke a hole in the fruit with the sharp end of the stick. Cut the stick in half and insert into the fruit. Insert the other end of the stick into the foam.
