Reusing Junk Items
TIPical Mary Ellen : Episode TIP-707 -- More Projects »
Crafter Deborah Fiscus points out some fantastic ways to salvage items from around the house that might otherwise land in the junk heap.
- What do you do with all of those scratched compact discs? Make a funky CD "curtain." It's great for an entertainment room, college dorm room, or children's room (figure A). Make them more uniform looking by covering each with a CD label. Tie them together with wire, and that's it.
Create a record clock by adhering fabric around the existing label, then pressing on the numbers (figure B). Purchase a clock motor-kit at a hobby store, and follow the instructions to install.
Missing the ace of spades from your deck of cards? Your poker game might suffer, but you can use the remaining cards to create a unique lampshade (figure C). Just punch holes into all four corners of the playing card with a hole punch. Use beaded jump rings to connect the cards to each other. Connect them both vertically and horizontally until you have formed a lamp shape. Attach to a lampshade ring. You can also use photos to create a similar look.
