Creativity expert Courtney Watkins shows how to turn old, unused sheets into new items that children will love.

Tooth-Fairy Pillow

Materials:

old or unused sheet
sewing machine or needle and thread
dry beans

Steps:

  1. Sew a small pocket onto the front of a rectangular piece of fabric (figure A).

  2. Fold the wrong side of the fabric over so that a square is formed, then sew along all sides. Leave two inches on one side so that the fabric can be turned inside out (figure B).

  3. Instead of using a sewing machine, have the children try a whipstitch or running stitch to sew up the sides.

  4. Fill the pillow with beans and complete the sewing. The pocket can hold a tooth for when the tooth fairy visits. Leave it off and you have a simple "sweet dreams" pillow.
