Materials:
drawers
3/4" birch plywood
wood glue
4-penny nails
100-grit sandpaper
birch veneer (optional)
brayer (optional)
Steps:
- Measure drawers and add 1/4 inch to width measurement (for a 1/8-inch clearance on each side). Add another 1-1/2 inches to the width measurement to allow for the plywood 's thickness. Add 3/4 inch to the depth measurement to allow for the back piece.
- Make the sides the same depth as the top and bottom pieces. Add 1/8 inch to the height measurement for the sides. For the box back, subtract 1-1/2 inches from the long side of the top and bottom pieces.
- Cut top and bottom pieces first, and then sides and back. The edge of the plywood shouldn't show on top so the side and back pieces should be sandwiched between the top and bottom pieces. Sand all edges.
- Stack the pieces around the drawer to assemble; make sure outside edges are smoothly aligned, and then put a bead of glue along top edges of side and back. Position top and nail to hold while glue sets. Flip over and glue/nail bottom piece.
- If desired, cover plywood edges with wood veneer strips. Glue in place and smooth with a brayer.
