Figure B
Materials:

drawer
shutter
scrap wood
metal triangle
jigsaw
drill
hinges
wood screws
paint or stain
pencil

Steps:

  1. Clean the shutter with a damp cloth. Turn the drawer over onto the shutter and trace it along the edges. Use a jigsaw to trim the shutter along the traced mark and cut the bottom edge completely off. Cutting it to these dimensions allows the shutter to act as a lid.
  2. Reinstall the wood from the lower edge of the shutter with screws to secure the slats. Stain or paint the shutter if desired to match the drawer (figure A).
  3. Use a metal triangle to measure scrap wood to make a divider. Cut a rectangular piece to fit the width of the drawer. Place it in the drawer and mark the necessary depth. Then make another cut lengthwise (figure B). Secure the divider with wood screws.
  4. Attach the lid with one hinge and add a longer one so that it can be propped open.
