Materials:

leaded glass window
scrap lumber
primer
paintbrush
hinges
wood screws
trim screws
drill and bit
composite wood

Steps:

  1. To build the casing, cut or have the scrap lumber cut to fit the window's outside dimensions. Prime the wood to match the window.
  2. Mark where the hinges will be attached. Use a drill and wood screws to attach the window to the casing (figure A).
  3. After drilling pilot holes, use trim screws (these are thin and won't split wood) to attach the remaining pieces (be sure the pieces are flush) (figure B).
  4. Cut wood shelves to fit inside the frame. Use trim screws to attach them and space them evenly to allow for the height of spice jars.
  5. Attach a pre-cut piece of composite wood as a backing board with finishing nails (figure C).
