2 wood cabinet knobs

floral accent
wood glue
hammer
nails
white latex paint
paintbrush
wood screws
screw driver
drill and bit

Steps:

  1. Sand the headboard with coarse sandpaper.
  2. For a decorative touch, apply wood glue to cabinet knobs and nail them to each end of the headboard as finials.
  3. Apply a light coat of white latex paint to the headboard wood using a dry brush method--allow some of the old wood to show through with just a light coat of paint .
  4. Align the headboard with the chest. Drill starter holes along the back of the headboard and secure the two pieces together with wood screws (figure A).
  5. Distress the bench by sanding it lightly along the edges and flat surfaces to give a weathered look.
  6. Screw a decorative glass knob to the door of the cabinet.
  7. For decoration, add a metal floral accent piece to the top of the headboard .
