Dr. C.D. Fleet invented lip balm in the early 1880s. This first lip balm looked like a wickless candle and was wrapped in aluminum foil. Lip balm began selling more when John Morton bought the rights in 1912.
- Lip balm can be used to moisturize cuticles.
- Before applying hair dye, rub lip balm along the hairline so that the dye doesn't discolor the skin.
- A stuck ring can be freed by coating your finger with lip balm.
- Rubbing lip balm on the terminals of a car's new battery can keep corrosion from forming on it.
- Rub it over nails and screws being drilled or pounded into wood to help them slide in a little easier.
- Apply it to the tracks of drawers and windows to make them open and shut easier.
- Rub a little lip balm over the leather shoes and buff with a dry, soft cloth for a quick polish.
- Rub it in the ridges on a medicine cabinet to make the doors easier to slide.
- Apply to a curtain rod to keep the rings gliding smoothly.
- Coat the inside of a candleholder with lip balm to make wax easier to remove.
- Coat the threads on a light bulb with it before screwing it into a socket. This will prevent sticking and allow for easy removal later.
