Reuse a cork as a pincushion.
TIPical Mary Ellen host Mary Ellen Pinkham points out household uses for corks.

  • Protect the wall behind a painting by gluing slices of cork to the back corners of the frame. This also helps keep the painting from moving around.

  • Make a potpourri with plastic sugared grapes, grape leaves and wine corks (figure A). Put a few drops of essential oil on the corks for that finishing touch.

  • Glue a cork to the back end of each leg of a rocking chair (figure B) to prevent it from tipping over backward. This tip is particularly appropriate for a child's rocker.

  • Spray paint a cork and place it in the water reservoir of your Christmas tree (figure C) to prevent overfilling. That way you can easily see the level of the water.

  • Glue leftover corks to a piece of felt to make a decorative trivet (figure D).

  • Drill a hole through a cork vertically and place a long bolt through it. Screw on a decorative knob to make a beautiful bottle stopper (figure E).
