Fabric-Scraps Tote Bag

Materials:

scissors
thick fabric
13'' x 16" rectangle (bag)
4" x 23" (long strap) 4" x 16" (short strap)
sewing machine
decorative trim
silk flowers
hot-glue gun

Steps:


  1. Cut fabric scraps to make a tote bag that is suitable for carrying magazines. Use the measurements of 13" x 16" for the bag and 4" x 23" for a long strap or 4" x 16 for a short strap.

  • Sew together the right side of each panel of fabric to the right side (so that the bag is turned inside-out when complete). Attach the strap to the bag two fingers of width in from each corner (figure A).

  • Fold in the raw edges and stitch across the top, where the straps attach (figure B). Be sure to double-stitch the areas where each strap end attaches to the bag.

  • Turn the bag right-side-out and embellish with decorative trim and flowers. Use hot glue to attach them (figure C).
