Recycle an old window by adding shelves and brackets for a useful organizer in the bath or kitchen.
Materials:

old window
paint
sandpaper
paintbrushes
scrap wood
support brackets
wood glue
wood screws
screwdriver
chain
2 hinges
vintage door key plate

Steps:

  1. Choose a window with lots of character--worn paint or unusual glass will make the shelf more visually appealing.
  2. Sand the window to remove splinters and smooth rough edges. Cut scrap wood for shelves to match the window length and paint them white.
  3. Once dry, distress the shelves with sandpaper to match the look of the window frame.
  4. Put wood glue on the brackets first, and then put a screw into the pre-drilled hole. Screw the brackets to the shelves.
  5. Turn the window on its side and screw the shelves on from the back (this hides the holes).
  6. Attach the chain to each hinge and screw those into the top edge of the window frame.
  7. Nail the key plate to the front top of the window in the center for a decorative touch.
