Figure C
Materials:

old post
scrap wood
4 corbels
finial
hammer
nails
screws
screwdriver or drill
hooks
paint or stain
paintbrush

Steps:

  1. Paint or stain the post, and then sand it for a distressed look.
  2. Create a base with one 24-inch piece of wood and two eight-inch pieces (figure A). Sand them to remove any splinters and attach at a cross with wood glue. Paint or stain the base to match the post.
  3. Paint or stain four corbels to match the post, also. Once dry, nail the corbels to the post, and then the base to the corbels. For extra sturdiness, nail the base to the post in the center (figure B).
  4. Place the post upright on its base. Attach one hook to each side of the post using screws. For a decorative touch, glue a finial to the top (figure C).
