Moneysaving expert Terri Lee shares some of her favorite thrifty tips.
- Save paper towels by placing a layer of newspaper underneath a doubled-up paper towel when blotting greasy foods (figure A).
- Use a dehumidifier water to water your plants.
Instead of buying sausage patties in the box, buy the bulk tube and use a bread knife to cut into wedges that are the same size as the prepackaged (figure B).Can't get the bottom of a long bottle clean? Use a handful of small pebbles and soap and water. Swish the bottle to clean.
Don't replace the hook off a shower curtain ring. Just buy a picture hanger, snip off the hook, and apply epoxy onto the back. Once the epoxy is dry, attach the new ring to the curtain (figure C).Make your own air freshener by adding a few drops of a sample perfume or liquid potpourri to a spray bottle filled with water.Freshen up stale pretzels by warming them in the oven for about 20 minutes.
Grow your own pineapple. Just cut off the top and place in some water. When roots start to grow, transplant into potting soil (figure D).
