Homemade Christmas and Hanukkah Gifts
Your Holiday Home : Episode YHH-103 -- More Projects »
Host Sharon Anderson is joined by designer Robb Whittlef, who has some creative ideas for homemade Hanukkah and Christmas gifts. Whittlef suggests embellishing Christmas ornaments and stemware with paint, making a Hanukkah light piece from sheet metal, putting together a flannel stocking and making creative holiday wine bags.
Figure A--Take plain glasses and turn them into holiday keepsakes by adding handpainted designs. Bake the glass in the oven for about 20 minutes on a low temperature to make the design permanent. Remember, once they're painted the glasses are for decorative use only and should not be used for drinks. Figure B--Make a lighted Hanukkah ornament with a wooden frame and sheet metal. Build a wooden frame in the shape of the Star of David, then have a piece of sheet steel cut to fit it. Attach the steel with tacks and hammer holes in the star shape in the center of the front. Cut a hole in the back and wire it for a light.
Figure C--Put together a rustic stocking for the fisherman in the family. Cut up an old plaid shirt and make it into a stocking. Attach fishing tackle to the stocking and put items like gift certificates on the inside. Figure D--These wine socks are an easy gift to make for beginning crafters. Choose a nice fabric, wrap it around a bottle of wine and tie with a festive ribbon. Pack in brightly colored garland ribbons, and include surprise touches such as foil-wrapped chocolate coins.
