Going Home : Episode GHM-105 -- More Projects »
Suzanne Santry grew up in an unusual environment. The daughter of an army colonel, her home for many years was a place called Fort Totten. Located in Queens, New York, Fort Totten was an actual military fort, where many army families lived. Most children grew up playing in make-believe forts, but Santry and her friends had a real fort to play in, right in their own backyard.

It has been 10 years since Santry has returned to Fort Totten, and now she has a good reason. She and her fiance, Jon, are going to her hometown to announce their engagement and to scout wedding locations within the fort.

Their adventure begins with Santry showing off the fort's hidden entranceways, underground tunnels and amazing views to Jon. They then join the head of the historical society to scout out locations for their wedding, as the various sites they see spark childhood memories for her.

The couple then head to Santry's childhood home to reunite with her father, brother and sister, their spouses and children, and her childhood friend Jeanne. The house, a beautiful Victorian with a view of Long Island Sound, is nearly 100 years old. The group happily explores the old house and discuss memories of how the bedrooms used to look and about the games the family used to play together.

Santry and her fiance decide the time is right, so they turn to the colonel and announce their plans to get married. The whole family is elated, and they celebrate with a champagne toast. Santry now has yet another wonderful memory associated with Fort Totten.
