TIPical Mary Ellen : Episode TIP-1213 -- More Projects »
Entertaining expert Dana Christine provides tips on throwing a slumber party with a princess theme.
- Make party invitations that look like an old-fashioned scroll (figure A). Write the party details in calligraphy of parchment paper, glue a dowel to each end of the paper and roll up. Have them hand delivered for an extra special touch.
Set a dinner table that is bright and glittery. To achieve this effect use satin fabric and netting for the tablecloth (figure B).Carve a squash into a carriage to use as the table's centerpiece (figure C). Carve out windows and highlight with sequins attached with pins. Light up the carriage with a votive candle. Place a pushpin into the top center of the squash. Wrap thin garland around the pin and attach it to a plastic horse.
Use decorative hair binders as napkin rings (figure D). The girls can take them home as party favors.Give each girl their own little cake that resembles a girl in a flowered sleeping bag (figure E). Make the cake body out of individually-sized sponge cakes, marshmallow heads and licorice hair. Use fruit leather as a blanket for the sleeping princess.Let the girls make their own princess crowns using a stretchy headband, ribbons and beads.
Let the girls put together their own "ball gowns" with various pieces of fabric remnants. Have costume jewelry on hand for accessories (figure F). Set up a runway for the girls to show off their outfits. Place flashlights in chip canisters to line and light the runway.
