Spend some time with the kids by making cute terra-cotta wind chimes like these.
Terra Cotta Wind Chime

Materials:

three-ply weather-resistant twine or rope
terra cotta pots in descending grades (2", 1" 1/2" and 1/4")
hazelnuts, pecans and cinnamon sticks or similar decorative items
drill

Steps:

  1. Make a handle by tying the rope in a loop and knotting it.

  2. Decorate the handle as you wish. Hazelnuts, pecans and cinnamon sticks with holes drilled into the middle of them were used here.

Figure A
  • Tape off the end of the rope to make it easier to work with, then slide it through each pot (figure A), making sure it goes in about 1/4 of the way. Tie knots inside the pot to hold each one in securely.

  • You can slide nuts onto the rope in a manner in which they will clang against the inside of the pot. Tie a knot at the end so they don't slide off.

  • Decorate the end with other nuts or decorative materials, as desired.
