Stretches for Children
Smart Solutions : Episode SSL-640 -- More Projects »
Fitness guru Lori Shaefer provides a lesson for children on the proper way to stretch their young muscles before they go out to play.
Figure A--With feet shoulder-width apart and the hands on the knees, sit into the hips, dropping the tailbone just a bit toward the ground. Take the navel (belly button) and pull it in and up toward the spine, dropping the neck. This is a great stretch for the spine and back muscles.
Figure B--With feet hip-width apart, soften the knees and bring the elbows straight out. Rotate to the left, keeping the hips forward, then carry this movement to the right. Keep both hands in the center of the chest. Do this exercise slowly.
Figure C--Stretch the quadriceps by putting the right leg forward with the left leg back (feet still shoulder-width apart). Roll the hips forward, squeezing the glutes. Repeat with each leg.
